In an emotional ceremony at the Lima Government Palace and with the presence of the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte; the Minister of Education, Morgan Quero; the President of Panam Sports, Neven Ilic; the Mayor or Lima, Rafael Lopez Aliaga; the President of the National Sports Institute (IPD, for its acronym in Spanish), Guido Flores and the President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Renzo Manyari, among other authorities, the contract between the Government of Peru, the Municipality of Lima, the Peruvian Olympic Committee and Panam Sports for the organization of the XX Pan American Games, to be held in Lima in 2027, was officially signed.
This is the second milestone of the XX edition of the Pan American Games, after the victory of Lima over Asuncion in the election held last March 12 in the city of Miami, USA.
A city that after the Games organized in 2019 has developed greatly in sports as host of major sporting events, becoming one of the sporting capitals of the Americas.
Proof of this is that between June and September 2024, Peru will host four World Championships, with the U-17 Women’s Volleyball, U-20 Athletics, the Junior Artistic Swimming and Cadet Judo World Championships.
“These are the most important sports Games of the continent, through which discipline, fraternity, cultural exchange and solidarity among the participating countries are promoted. In addition, the Games are a platform for the promotion of Lima’s and Peru’s image at international level and a booster for national economy. These Games will further the sports development of more than 9,000 athletes and para-athletes and to face this challenge, Lima will need the support of the relevant authorities and work together with them. The contract signed today is a tangible proof of the commitment that we have with Lima 2027 and a guarantee that this event will be very successful”, added the President of Peru Dina Boluarte.
“We are taking a very important step with the signing of this contract. From now on, the countdown begins for this, the greatest celebration of continental sport, which after 8 years will once again have Lima as the host city. I would like to sincerely thank the Peruvian Government, its President Dina Boluarte; the Ministers of State and the Peruvian Olympic
Committee for their great commitment to sport in the Americas and of course, I wish them every success on the road to the 2027 Pan American Games,” said Panam Sports President Neven Ilic.
Lima and all the Peruvian people are already preparing for this event, to be held in a little more than 3 years. It is the first time in the history of this continental event that a city hosts the Pan American and Parapan American Games twice in a short period of eight years.
