Paris 2024 Olympians elect four new members to IOC Athletes’ Commission
The athletes competing at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 have elected Allyson Felix (USA, Athletics), Kim Bui (GER, Gymnastics), Jessica Fox (AUS, Canoe) and Marcus Daniell (NZL, Tennis) to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes’ Commission (AC), for a term of eight years ending at the Olympic Games Brisbane 2032. The new members will contribute to ensuring that the athletes’ voice remains at the heart of the Olympic Movement’s decisions. The IOC AC represents all athletes and supports them throughout their careers on and off the field of play.
Between 18 July and 6 August, 6,576 athletes, representing a participation rate of 61.96 per cent, cast their vote at Athlete365 House in the Olympic Villages in Paris, Châteauroux, Lille and Marseille, and at the Olympic Village in Tahiti and selected football cities. This is the highest participation rate at a Summer Games edition since London 2012.
The new members of the IOC AC are:
- Allyson Felix, Athletics, USA – Five-time Olympian; Olympic champion at Beijing 2008, London 2012 (3), Rio 2016 (2) and Tokyo 2020; silver medallist at Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and Rio 2016; bronze medallist at Tokyo 2020. World champion in 2005, 2007 (3), 2009 (2), 2011 (2), 2015, 2017 (2), 2019 (2) and 2022; world silver medallist in 2011 and 2015 (2); world bronze medallist in 2011, 2017 and 2022.
- Kim Bui, Gymnastics, Germany – Three-time Olympian; competed at eight World Championships.
- Jessica Fox, Canoe, Australia – Four-time Olympian; Olympic champion at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 (2); silver medallist at London 2012; bronze medallist at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. Gold medallist at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games, Singapore 2010.
- Marcus Daniell, Tennis, New Zealand – Two-time Olympian; bronze medallist at Tokyo 2020; competed at Rio 2016. Competed in 26 Grand Slams between 2015 and 2022 in doubles and mixed doubles.
Twenty-nine athletes representing 15 sports, 29 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and all five continents stood for election, reflecting the strong and diverse interest among athletes in representing their peers.
The four new members will join the Commission upon the completion of Paris 2024, and will serve eight-year terms that will end at the Olympic Games Brisbane 2032.

Outgoing members
The four members of the Commission who were elected by their peers at the Olympic Games Rio 2016 – Daniel Gyurta (Swimming, Hungary), Britta Heidemann (Fencing, Germany), Yelena Isinbaeva (Athletics, Russia) and Seung-min Ryu (Table Tennis, Republic of Korea) – have completed their terms. Three appointed members of the Commission – Nadin Dawani (Taekwondo, Jordan), Aya Medany (Modern Pentathlon, Egypt) and Sarah Walker (Cycling BMX, New Zealand) – have also finished their terms, with Medany and Walker elected as IOC Members at the 142nd IOC Session in Paris.
The newly formed IOC AC will meet for the first time in Paris on 9 August, when they will hold elections for the Chair and Vice-Chair positions. The IOC AC Chair sits on the IOC Executive Board, representing athletes at the highest level within the IOC. It should be noted that there are 15 IOC AC members in the IOC Session representing athletes – this is the same number of representatives from NOCs and International Federations (IFs).
