ONOC facilitates Pacific Sporting Excellence at Sol 2023 XVII Pacific Games
The Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) under its Games Support Programme is committed to strengthening its collaborative role at the upcoming Sol 2023 XVII Pacific Games, reinforcing our commitment to being a steadfast partner in the success of this significant event.
Recognising the Pacific Games as a vital stepping stone towards the Olympic Games, ONOC is dedicated to contributing to the Games’ overall success and the broader development of the Oceania region’s sporting landscape.
A Legacy of Support
In alignment with the longstanding partnership between ONOC and the Pacific Games Council (PGC), our involvement at the Sol 2023 XVII Pacific Games signifies a shared commitment to cultivating sporting excellence and unity within the Oceania region.
The Pacific Games, occurring every quadrennial, stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of ONOC and its member nations in promoting the values of the Olympic Movement.
Fostering Sporting Excellence
As part of its commitment to fostering sporting excellence, ONOC has historically contributed directly to its member nations and associate members. This support spans a spectrum of initiatives, including comprehensive training and development programs through the esteemed Oceania Sports Education Programme (OSEP). ONOC remains dedicated to nurturing the next generation of athletes and sport leaders through these impactful programs.
Strategic Pre-Games Initiatives
In preparation for the Sol 2023 XVII Pacific Games, ONOC successfully activated a comprehensive Games Support Programme. This included technical and training support to the National Olympic Committee of the Solomon Islands (NOCSI) Sport Development Officers’ (SDO) program and Team Solomons. Additionally, ONOC – through it Medical Commission, conducted Basic Life Support Training for the Games Organizing Committee (GOC) Medical Programme to ensure a robust medical support system during the event.
Dynamic Games Period Involvement
Throughout the Games, ONOC will be dynamically involved in various initiatives. The ONOC Athletes’ Commission will facilitate the Voices of the Athletes (VOA) Programme, providing athletes with a platform to voice their perspectives and concerns.
The ONOC Medical Commission will play a pivotal role in supporting the GOC Medical Poly Clinics, including the facilitation of a volunteer Physiotherapy Team from Japan.
Contribution to further strategic discussions, the ONOC International Relations Commission will make a presentation at the Sports Minister’s Meeting on the SPAPE Action Plan 2019-2030. The ONOC Sustainability Commission will support the VOA activation program in Honiara, aligning with sustainability goals. Simultaneously, OSEP will manage the Entourage database and survey, providing valuable insights for future planning. The ONOC Communications team will lead the Sol 2023 Campaign, ensuring comprehensive Games Coverage for regional and national media, managing Games Content Collection, focusing on the Paris 2024 Qualification Events, and overseeing the Games Results for OSIC. The ONOC Information Technology department will provide crucial IT support for all ONOC activations and facilitate broadcast on the Olympic Channel for a wider-world audience.
Furthermore, the ONOC Olympic Solidarity Team and IOC’s Olympic Solidarity Programme will continue their unwavering support to NOCSI and NOCs in funding applications for Games activities. The ONOC Executive Office will actively participate in the Senior Officials and Sports Ministers Meeting and the Pacific Games Council General Assembly, offering vital support to NOC members during this critical period.
Post-Games Commitment
Post the Sol 2023 XVII Pacific Games, ONOC remains committed to excellence. The ONOC Communications team will curate a Games content database and establish a Games Results repository with the Oceania Sports Information Centre (OSIC) at the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji.
OSEP will analyze and present the Entourage Survey findings, contributing to the evaluation and improvement of future initiatives. The ONOC Secretariat will compile comprehensive activation reports, providing valuable insights into the effectiveness of ONOC’s involvement throughout the Games.
This holistic engagement across the Pre-Games, Games, and Post-Games phases underscores ONOC’s unwavering dedication to fostering sporting excellence, unity, and the sustainable development of the Oceania region.
