
ANOC mourns loss of IOC Honorary Member Olegario Vázquez Raña
ANOC was saddened to learn that IOC Honorary Member Mr Olegario Vázquez Raña passed away at the age of 89.
Mr Vázquez Raña dedicated his life to sport as an athlete and later a decorated sports administrator. He was a Permanent Member of the Mexican National Olympic Committee from 1969.
He became an IOC Member in 1995 and served until 2015, becoming an Honorary Member the following year. He led the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) for nearly 40 years from 1980 to 2018.
Prior to his career in sports administration he competed in shooting for Mexico at four Olympic Games – Tokyo 1964, Mexico City 1968, Munich 1972 and Montreal 1976.
Mr Vázquez Raña will be sorely missed and ANOC’s thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
