ANOC MOURNS LOSS OF IOC HONORARY MEMBER GENERAL MOUNIR SABET

It is with great sadness that ANOC has learned of the passing of IOC Honourary Member General Mounir Sabet at the age of 87. ANOC and the whole NOC family are united in expressing our deepest sympathies to his family.

Following a distinguished shooting career, which saw him represent Egypt’s national team, General Sabet spent a further 40 years serving both Egypt’s NOC and the sport of shooting worldwide.

He was an IOC Member between 1998 and 2016, while he also served as President of Egyptian Olympic Committee from 1990 to 1992, and then 1996 to 2009. In addition to leading Egypt’s NOC with distinction, he was also President of the African Shooting Confederation and a board member of the International Shooting Sports Federation.

General Sabet was a great ambassador for his country and was awarded the ANOC Merit Trophy for his services to the Olympic Movement in 2002. He will be sorely missed by all of us.
