Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China awards scholarships to athletes ahead of Hangzhou 2022

Jointly organized by the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and the Shun Hing Group, the Presentation Ceremony of “Panasonic Sports Scholarship Programme” (the Programme) was successfully held on 8 August 2022 at the Olympic House. As part of the Programme, 10 awardees will be awarded a total scholarship of HK$3,456,000 for the preparation of participation in the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Since 2010, the programme has assisted athletes to better prepare and strive for the best results by providing financial support towards specialized coaching service, cost of their local/overseas training, medical assistance and other items that would assist the athletes. The 10 awardees are Ms. CHING Siu Nga Jessica (Athletics), Mr. NG Ka Long Angus (Badminton), Mr. CHOI Chun Yin Ryan (Fencing), Ms. LIN Yik Hei Coco (Fencing), Mr. CHIU Hin Chun (Rowing), Mr. HO Ian Yentou (Swimming), Mr. HO Kwan Kit (Table Tennis), Ms. LEE Ho Ching (Table Tennis), Ms. CHONG Eudice Wong (Tennis) and Mr. Oscar COGGINS (Triathlon).

In the Programme, each awardee will receive a 32-month subsidy of HK$345,600 in total from January 2022 to August 2024 supported by the Shun Hing Group. At the Ceremony, they were grateful to accept the scholarship as it is useful for their training plan, especially for arranging prolonged overseas training and competitions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Programme also provides financial assistance to acquire new equipment and medical treatment for improving their performance.

Mr. Timothy T. T. FOK, President of SF&OC and Mr. David MONG, Chairman and Group CEO of Shun Hing Group were the Officiating Guests in the event and presented commemorative certificates to the awardees. Speaking at the ceremony, President FOK expressed his sincere gratitude to the Shun Hing Group for their generous contribution towards Hong Kong sports development, and conveys our heartfelt congratulations to all awardees. “Our Athletes had achieved record-breaking result in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which were the collective efforts from different stakeholders leading to their success. With the establishment of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau on 1 July 2022, I believe that it will enhance the development of the sports industry in long run and bring it to a higher level.”

Mr. David MONG highly appraised the performance of Hong Kong athletes at the Multi Sports Games, “The Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games has been postponed to 2023. Many athletes have continued to train hard and participated in different international competitions in order to prepare for the upcoming Asian Games. Shun Hing Group hopes that the Programme can assist all awardees to focus on their training and better equip themselves.” He hoped the awarded athletes would continue to break their own records and strive for excellence in the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
