Rebeca Andrade becomes most decorated Brazilian Olympian in history

Rebeca Andrade won gold in the women’s floor gymnastics on Monday 5 August to take her career tally to 6 Olympic medals, making her the most decorated Brazilian Olympian of all time.

Andrade scored 14.166 ahead of 11-time Olympic medallist Simone Biles (14.133) from the USA.  Jordan Chiles also of the USA took bronze, scoring a 13.766.

“I am very happy and proud about what I did,” Andrade said. “We came here every day to compete and perform (well). Gymnastics is not an easy sport, it requires a lot from our body and mind.

“I was confident I was able to manage all of the pressure and I worked with my coach in order to achieve what we’ve done.”

Speaking about which is her favourite of her medals she’s won in Paris 2024 she said:

“I can’t really choose, because they’re all special to me. Our bronze in the team competition was very important to me, it was something we’ve dreamed about as a team and something I really wanted myself, too.

“For my individual medals, it’s the same. I knew about my capabilities (of winning medals) and I gave it my all. I was fighting to finally have a gold, because I wanted that one so badly. I’m so glad I managed today.”
