Olympic Day celebration in Kazakhstan
On 23rd and 24th June, sport competitions were hosted throughout Kazakhstan as a celebration of the Olympic Day.
“Olympic weekend” was started with a programme called “The games of young nomads” organized by the Center for Palliative Care for Children with oncology diseases “I am with You” with the active support of the UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty and the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event, which involved more than 180 children with oncological diseases, was conducted under the slogan “Move, Explore! Discover!” and there were various sports competitions through the day: traditional national games, athletics, laser shooting, football, pioneer ball, chess, a jump rope for girls and table tennis.
Young athletes not only participated in the competitions, but also enjoyed watching athlete master classes. A team of young karate players gave a master class for children and wished them a smooth recovery, and also shared their inspiration and desire to do sports.
The end of the event was marked by the awarding ceremony of the young winners with the participation of the Kazakhstan Champions on freestyle wrestling – Mr. Amandyk Bakiyev and Mr. Zhiger Zakirov, the participant of the Olympic Games in 2014 and 2018 – Ms. Zhanbota Aldabergenova, silver medalist of the World Championship in Judo Mr. Azamat Mukanov.
Each participant received the certificates from the International Olympic Committee with gifts and prizes.
The main objective of the project was to empower children with oncological diseases to participate in the Olympic movement and increase their physical activity.
