NOCs of North Macedonia and Germany partner for International Expert Training on “Sport for Development”

DOSB’s International Expert Training “Sport for Development” (S4D) was hosted for the first time in Skopje earlier this month. This one-week sport pedagogical training brought together 25 trainers from 10 countries for further training and exchange on the method of “Sport for Development”.

The participants came from diverse backgrounds, many from the Western Balkan region and Germany, but also from African and South American countries.

The event was held in the framework of marking 30 years of German-Macedonian cooperation. The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and the Olympic Committee of North Macedonia (NOC MKD) organised the training in cooperation with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ).

A special focus was put on the Sustainable Development Goals and how to use those goals in day-to-day S4D work. Through sport pedagogical programmes, children and young people learn not only the fundamentals of sports, but also how to take responsibility, behave fairly and resolve conflicts peacefully.

This year’s training was ceremonially opened by NOC MKD Secretary General Dr. Sasho Popovski and GIZ Country Director for North Macedonia and Kosovo David Oberhuber. The German Ambassador to North Macedonia H.E. Anke Holstein also welcomed the participants during a practical session.
