NOC HONG KONG VISITS CHINESE OLYMPIC COMMITTEE

A delegation of the NOC Hong Kong led by Mr. Timothy Fok, President of  the NOC Hong Kong visited the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) in Beijing last Monday and met with Mr. Gao Zhidan, President of COC and Director of the General Administration of Sport of China, as well as other senior officials.

The two parties discussed sports-related policies and sports development and had thorough exchanges on issues of mutual concern, particularly those relating to the Hangzhou Asian Games this September, the 15th National Games in 2025 and how the sports sector could enhance cooperation with each other.

During the meeting, the delegation also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the General Administration of Sport and the national team for their support, in particular in situations where assistance was needed as the Hong Kong, China delegation participated in overseas sports events during the pandemic.

Mr. Timothy Fok said: “This is the first visit by the NOC Hong Kong to the Mainland over the past three years since the pandemic. This is also the first meeting in person between two  NOCs since Mr. Gao assumed office, and the commencement of the new term of the NOC Hong Kong officers.

“This visit has been very fruitful. In addition to learning from the experience of the Mainland, we have also explored the possibilities of facilitating Hong Kong athletes to participate more widely in training in the Mainland, fostering sport exchange between youngsters in the Mainland and Hong Kong, with a hope to create more opportunities for Hong Kong athletes and youth development.

“We also discussed the possibilities of Hong Kong hosting more international sports events. These suggestions would be actively considered and supported.”
