National Olympic Committees of Brazil and Panama sign cooperation agreement to promote sports exchanges

The Panama Olympic Committee (POC) has signed a multi-year cooperation agreement with the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) to facilitate training and sports preparation opportunities in Brazil for elite Panamanian athletes seeking to qualify for the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 and the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

POC President Damaris Young and COB President, Paulo Wanderley Teixeira, formalised the cooperation agreement in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The collaboration is set to last for four years and is designed to strengthen ties between the two countries.

“Our goal is that this agreement may be put into practice to benefit the athletes of both countries. I thank President Paulo Wanderley and his team for the opportunity to cooperate and strengthen the preparation of our elite athletes and the sports management of our organisation,” said Young.

“This important agreement will make it possible for athletes from Panama to come and train in Brazil and, eventually, some athletes from Brazil may benefit from the structure of Panama’s Olympic sport. We will encourage and promote exchanges in a planned manner to benefit the athletes. Our countries are fully committed to supporting the development of the Olympic Movement and all the positive values that sport carries,” stated Wanderley.

The BOC and POC also committed to promoting training courses for athletes, coaches, managers and scientists. Education courses include, doping education, preventing and tackling harassment and abuse in sports.
