President of the European Parliament visits National Olympic Committee of Portugal

The president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, visited the National Olympic Committee of Portugal and participated in a panel with six portuguese women olympians: Patrícia Mamona (Athletics), Telma Monteiro (Judo), Lorene Bazolo (Athletics), Tamila Holub (Swimming), Maria Caetano (Equestrian) e Diana Gomes (Swimming), president of the Olympic Athletes’ Comission. During the lecture, the topics covered focused on issues of gender equality, inclusion and diversity.

Before the panel, Roberta Metsola met with the president of the NOC of Portugal, José Manuel Constantino, alongside with the NOC Secretary General, José Manuel Araújo, the general director, João Paulo Almeida, the director of the Department of Studies and Project, Cristina Almeida, and the president of the Olympic Athletes’ Commission, Diana Gomes.

The signing of the Book of Honour marked the ending of a productive meeting where several topics were discussed. Afterwards, both leaders exchanged symbolic gifts.

José Manuel Constantino praised Roberta Metsola’s visit to the NOC headquarters in Lisbon: “The choice of a sports organisation for the agenda of the visits and working meetings of the President of the European Parliament and the meeting with the athletes reveals a political and cultural sensitivity that should be highlighted.”
