National Olympic Committee of Kenya launches sport for peace project
The National Olympic Committe of Kenya (NOC-K) has launched a sport for peace project in partnership with former athlete Irene Limika who runs a foundation for the Arrows for Peace Programme.
Arrows of Peace is a three-day program with phase 1 taking place in Mt. Elgon. It is implemented through partnership with Irene Limika Foundation (ILF), founded by Ms. Irene Limika – a former professional athlete and now athletics and archery coach at KDF and peace ambassador.
A total 80 participants from eight counties of Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Teso, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, Baringo and Nandi came together a at Mayuba Stadium in Sirisia Sub-County for training in archery sport.
The programme sees participants exchange arrows which would otherwise be used for fighting and use them instead for sport.
