John Coates re-elected President of Australian Olympic Committee

John Coates was re-elected as Presdient of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) on Saturday at the AOC’s Annual General Meeting in Sydney.

Coates received 58 votes to Danielle Roche’s 35 to extend his term as President which dates back to 1990.

All 40 National Federations (33 Summer and 7 Winter) were represented by two delegates who had a vote each. The AOC Executive Board had a total of 12 votes while one additional vote was cast by AOC Athletes’ Commission deputy chair Kim Brennan giving a total of 93 votes in the election.

Ian Chesterman and Helen Brownlee were elected for the two Vice President roles. 

Seven positions on the Executive Board were also decided with 10 candidates up for election. Australian Sailing President Matt Allen, Athletics Australia’s Mark Arbib, Volleyball Australia’s Craig Carracher, Kitty Chiller from Modern Pentathlon Australia, Evelyn Halls from the Australian Fencing Federation, Swimming Australia’s Nicole Livingstone and Gymnastics Australia’s Michael Murphy were all elected.
