Japanese Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission calls on athletes to support in fight against COVID-19
The Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) Athletes’ Commission has called on Japanese athletes from summer and winter sports to support local society in overcoming the challenges caused by COVID-19.
The Commission believes that athletes have a responsibility to help society fight the virus and asked athletes to send messages of hope and support through their various social media channels.
Just three days after the call by the Commission, more than 230 posts have been made on social media by Olympians, Paralympicians and athletes.
Athlete posts have been across three key areas:
♯Stayhealthy – Introducing workouts at home, providing information about athlete’s daily food and nutrition, and advice on ways of relaxing
♯Thanks- Thanking the people who are currently fighting on the front lines such as medical and healthcare workers
♯Stayhome -Encouraging people to stay at home and following medical advice such as washing hands.
This activity has generated a great response in Japan and more and more athletes are getting involved.
The JOC Athletes’ Commission strongly believes in the power of sport and will continue to conduct various activities to contribute to society.
