International Day of Sport for Development and Peace initiative by Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee

The Peace through Sport Committee of Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee (CTOC) invited several prominent athletes to respond to the United Nations General Assembly’s decision in August 2013 to designate April 6 of each year as the “International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP)”.

The IOC also supports this initiative by emphasizing the power of sport to promote peace, reconciliation, and development, and by highlighting the power of the Olympic Games to foster tolerance and solidarity among participants, fans, and people around the world, and to demonstrate how athletes and the Olympic Movement can actively contribute through sport to peaceful, healthy, equitable, inclusive, and sustainable societies.

In response to “International Day of Sport for Development and Peace” and in conjunction with the international White Card campaign of Peace and sport, the Peace through Sport Committee of CTOC has invited renowned athletes, coaches, and their friends to establish ties in the “White Card” program this year.

By gathering five friends to take a group picture with their hands forming the word “PEACE” or facing the camara to form one letter of the word “PEACE” at a time, these athletes and their friends merge the photos and upload them to their personal FB or IG for the purpose of promoting the peace through sport.

On April 6, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, the CTOC also encouraged the public to participate the White Card campaign to spread the positive energy of sport through the Internet and use the power of sport to eliminate confrontation and hatred, and work together to promote social harmony and world peace.
