Hong Kong win third ever Olympic gold with fencing triumph
Hong Kong won their third gold medal in Olympic history as Vivian Kong beat France’s Auriane Mallo-Breton in a dramatic final in the women’s epee.
Speaking after the match, Kong said: “I don’t really know. I’m happy. Being able to fence in this palace has always been my dream. I love Paris.
King had been behind 7-1 in the second period but fought back to take the match to sudden death where she won 13-12.
“I just thought it was so embarrassing to lose like this. I was not using my brain,” she said.
“I still think I lost even after so many interviews.
