Great Britain wins first-ever triathlon mixed relay Olympic gold
Great Britain’s mixed relay triathlon made history by winning the first ever gold in 1:23:41, while the United States took silver in 1:23:55 and France took bronze in 1:24:04.
Two members of Team GB, Alex Yee and Georgia Taylor-Brown had already won individual silvers.
Yee said “I wanted to race the best I could for the team but the best way to do that was to put away the silver. It is very special to do it with these guys.”
“It is the best position to be in but also the worst, because all you can do is lose it. I’ve seen many athletes fall apart but he didn’t so it was absolutely amazing,” said Jonathan Brownlee in reference to Yee’s front-running lap.
Jessica Learmonth also commended her teammates by saying “I felt really confident having Alex Yee on the last leg, looking like he was jogging. It looked very easy.”
