Ghana Olympic Committee hosts successful Annual General Congress 2022

The Ghana Olympic Committee held its 2022 Annual General Congress at Ga Mashie Hall, Trust Sports Emporium on 17 December and saw the election of Mawuko Afadzinu as First Vice President.

Mawuko Afadzinu, President of the Ghana Table Tennis Association beat Hon. Mohammed Adjei Sowah, Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Swimming Association by 38 to 19 to be elected as the new First Vice President of the GOC/ CGA. He was sworn into office

In his address to Congress, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee GOC and Commonwealth Games Association Ghana CGA said Ghana Sports chalked some successes in the last Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

52 African Countries competed at Tokyo 2020 and Ghana placed 10th alongside Botswana, Burkina Faso and Cote D’ivoire.

The GOC President mentioned the exceptional performance of Samuel Takyi who was selected to represent Africa at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games and stood by the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

He also talked about Ghana’s participation at the Beijing Winter Olympic Games where Alpine Skier Carlos Merder represented Ghana.

On the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, he hailed Team Ghana for winning five medals, three bronze medals from Athletics and Boxing and two Silver Medals from Boxing.
