Ecuadorian NOC hosts Olympic Values Education Programme

The Ecuadorian Olympic Academy of the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee (COE) hosted the Olympic Values Education Program (PEVO) at the Santa Elena Peninsula State University (UPSE). The workshop was given over two days to 76 students in the fourth semester of the Basic Education degree.

The program was led by facilitators Jorge Cedeño, Ana Karina Albán and Diana Mendoza.

Representatives from the Olympic Academy and UPSE authorities, the rector Néstor Acosta and the academic vice-rector Gisella Paula were present at the inauguration.

“With the programme we intend to promote Olympism in education. That is why it is not only intended for physical education but also for teachers from different areas, precisely because education is now becoming interdisciplinary,” Diana Mendoza highlighted.

Through various activities, exhibitors seek to delve into the basic pillars of the Olympic philosophy such as excellence, friendship and respect. “It has been an intensive training, but the facilitators have been able to motivate us. This knowledge is very important to apply in teaching. Currently we are going to carry out our internships (pre-professional) and we can also give our points of view in the different institutions, how education is approached to apply the Olympic values…”, pointed out María de Lourdes Fernández, student.

“This learning helps us a lot in the activities, planning in which the Olympism must be included. The training has made us aware of their values, which are excellent for education in the new modalities that are being implemented,” said Luis Fernando Gonzabay, a participant.
