Brazilian Olympic Committee to use Artificial Intelligence to enhance anti-doping education

The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), in collaboration with the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), is installing an artificial intelligence (AI) system to monitor doping discussion on social media.

The objective of the AI system is to expand the COB’s understanding of behaviour from groups of people that use prohibited substances so that it can develop assertive campaigns to promote the risks and consequences of doping in sport to the organisation’s athletes. UFRRJ professor, Filipe Braida, has suggested that knowing how people see and use prohibited substances can help in decision-making in education and doping-prevention courses for athletes across the Brazilian Olympic sports community.

COB Anti-Doping Prevention and Education Manager, Christian Trajano, believes this will have a positive impact on the COB’s Anti-Doping Prevention and Education platform and result in athletes being exposed to information which is more relevant and effective.

“This feature is important to bring quality information to users of the COB system and the Brazilian Olympic community. This will feed the platform’s AI system, which will suggest educational content to its users based on the most relevant topics discussed on social media. The system autonomously monitors what is said on the networks; thus, we can provide platform users with adequate knowledge on the top trending subject, validated by the COB,” said Trajano.
