Brazil NOC hosts first 1st Forum of Women in Sport

The Olympic Committee of Brazil (COB) held its 1st Forum of Women in Sport which was attended by female personalities from national and international sports. The approximately 200 guests who attended Teatro XP, at the Jóquei Clube, were able to follow several lectures and debates that dealt with gender equity, the importance of women’s growth in sport, among other topics related to the theme.

The holding of the Forum marked one year since the creation of the Women in Sports at COB. Through it, the entity has promoted actions to value and strengthen women, such as the Women’s Sports Commission and the Women’s Health Doubt Channel all with the objective of helping in the well-being and development of athletes and collaborators.

The president of the COB, Paulo Wanderley, opened the Forum and spoke about the event and the actions that the entity has taken for an increasingly present equality.

“The Forum is a practical action for the mobilization of the COB in relation to gender equity. This is a very important issue not only for the sports environment, and the moment is more than appropriate. COB Women’s Commission”, said Paulo Wanderley. “We are attentive to the needs of this topic. We have a number of female collaborators that is greater than that of men in the COB. There is a need to implement this more and more, but we have taken practical actions in this sense”, added the COB president.

One of the most anticipated lectures was by Nicole Hoevertsz, vice president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). She spoke about the entity’s guidelines and vision for gender equity. Nicole also valued the holding of the Forum.

“The Forum fits perfectly with the goals of the International Olympic Committee. I was president of ODEPA and the IOC Women and Sport Commission, and I had the opportunity to visit many countries to get this message across: we need more women everywhere in sport. Coaches, athletes, directors, journalists. We have a lot to celebrate, but we also have to improve. Let’s identify these areas so that together we can evolve in the participation of women in sport”, she said.
