Bhutanese athletes given opportunity to voice concerns

The Athletes Commission of the Bhutan held its 3rd Annual General Meeting recently with 63 athlete representatives from 14 National Sports Federations attending.

The meeting was organised to provide athletes with the opportunity to raise their voices and concerns so that it would be incorporated in the decision-making processes.

The Athletes Commission of Bhutan is an independent commission that oversees the rights, responsibilities and well being of the athletes within the Bhutan Olympic Committee, National Sports Federations and Sports Associations of Bhutan.

Among the main issues on the agenda was insurance for athletes, the use and guidelines on social media and information on the Sports Excellence Award. Participants were also informed on their entitlements and benefits.

The core message at the AGM was that athletes were at the heart of sports.

Athletes from the small Asian nation are still searching for their first Olympic medal. The Bhutan Olympic Committee has previously signed a training camp agreement for Tokyo 2020 with the Kanagawa Prefectural Government in the city of Yokohama where Bhutanese athletes will train for the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics.
