Beach Clean-Up Event by NOC Chinese Taipei
The successful hosting of the 2024 Paris Olympics, which echoed the International Olympic Committee’s emphasis on environmental sustainability, has served as a global reminder of our collective responsibility to protect the Earth.
In response to the IOC and the Paris Olympics’ calls for green and sustainable development, the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, along with all its Commissions and the Chinese Taipei Olympian Association, co-hosted a beach clean-up event on 30th November titled “Joining Hands with Olympians and Asian Games Athletes to Protect Our Blue Ocean and Earth.”
The event aimed to raise awareness of environmental protection, equality, education, and the Olympic spirit through practical actions, bringing together Olympians, Asian Games athletes, sports enthusiasts, and the public.
The beach clean-up event held on 30th November at LinKou DingLiao Beach, was led by numerous outstanding Olympic and Asian Games athletes, including Athens Olympic Taekwondo gold medallist Chu Mu-Yen, 1980 Winter Olympics skier and environmental entrepreneur Tim Lin, Paris Olympic shooting bronze medallist Lee Meng-Yuan and many others. These athletes joined hands with participants to collect and sort garbage on the beach, enjoying a healthy, environmentally and meaningful day.
Under the leadership of these renowned athletes, public participation was enthusiastic. More than 150 people joined the event, including nearly 30 students from LinKou Junior High School who, accompanied by their teachers and parents, supported this meaningful environmental education initiative. With sleeves rolled up, they actively participated in the beach cleanup to protect the ocean and Earth. The athletes’ personal involvement demonstrated the power of the Olympic spirit, not only uniting people from all walks of life but also extending the spirit of sports to the field of environmental protection. With their unwavering determination, similar to that shown in sports, they actively promoted beach clean-up actions to protect the marine environment.
Beach clean-up is not merely about cleaning up garbage but also about conveying care for the ocean and the Earth. We hope that through this event, we can educate and cultivate a sense of environmental responsibility in the younger generation, fostering habits of reducing waste and caring for the Earth from a young age. We also aim to raise public awareness of marine pollution and inspire more people to join in protecting the marine ecosystem.
The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee is grateful to the participating athletes and the public for taking practical actions to participate in this meaningful beach cleanup event, protecting our blue ocean, cherishing our common home, and creating a better future together.
