Bahrain Olympic Committee to build sports medicine hospital
Bahrain Olympic Committee President Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa has authorised the construction of a new sports medicine hospital.
Shaikh Khalid, who is also First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, made the announcement at the sixth meeting of the current BOC board of directors.
Construction of the new hospital, which will be under the umbrella of the BOC, will begin soon in an attempt to provide all levels of treatment as well as sports rehabilitation services for athletes and the public alike.
BOC Secretary General Mohammed Al Nusuf presented a study plan for the hospital which was prepared as per the directive of Shaikh Khalid at the previous board meeting. It was also announced that a company would be chosen to manage the project.
Another highlight of the meeting was confirmation of the Khalid bin Hamad Elite Scholarship Programme – an initiative that aims to attract the elite athletes of Bahrain in the long-term planning for the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games.
