
Tokyo celebrates 1,000 days to go until 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games
Tokyo today celebrated 1,000 days to go until the opening of the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games with a number of festivities across the capital.
Tokyo governor Yuriko Koike, President of the Japanese Olympic Committee Tsunekazu Takeda and many Olympic athletes were among 15,000 people who gathered to celebrate the event.
The focus of the celebrations was in the Nihombashi district. Four floats with the numbers 1, 0, 0, 0 were carried to a stage where a countdown clock was displayed. There were also demonstrations of 3×3 basketball, skateboarding and BMX freestyle cycling which will be included in Tokyo 2020 and a number of presentations from Olympic athletes.
East of Tokyo, in Chiba Prefecture an event was held at Narita airport. The famous Tokyo Tower, was also lit in the five colours of the Olympic rings on Friday night and the number ‘1000’ was displayed on the observatory of the tower.
