ANOC World Beach Games Bali 2023 Makes Adjustments to Sports Programme
The 2nd ANOC World Beach Games Bali 2023 today announced that following consultation with the ANOC Executive Council, a decision has been reluctantly taken not to hold the 3×3 Basketball event as part of the ANOC World Beach Games Bali 2023.
Bali 2023 faced issues relating to several venues and has been working to find a solution to ensure all sports on the programme could remain a part of the Games.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) was forced to look for an alternative sporting venue for 3×3 Basketball from the previously confirmed venue due to inflated rental costs imposed by the venue operator.
However, due to these budgetary concerns and limited time available to find an alternative venue, it is with regret that ANOC accepted the decision and request of the LOC.
3×3 Basketball was one of two additional sports, along with AirBadminton, that were chosen by the LOC to feature in Bali 2023. The remaining sports on the programme comprise the 10 mandatory sports and two additional sports selected by ANOC.
ANOC and the LOC are disappointed for the athletes and NOCs who had qualified in 3×3 Basketball and regret they will not be able to compete in Bali. However, both parties are unanimous that the decision was necessary to ensure the LOC could honour the core principle of hosting the ANOC World Beach Games sustainably and within a reasonable budget.
No 3×3 Basketball qualification events have been held specifically for Bali 2023, with qualification based on rankings from 3×3 Basketball’s regular season events.
ANOC and the LOC remain committed to delivering a successful ANOC World Beach Games Bali 2023 and ensuring a memorable experience for all participants and spectators
