ANOC President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah heads Olympic Solidarity meeting in Maldives

ANOC President Sheikh  Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah today headed the Olympic Solidarity meeting in the Maldives as the Commission met to discuss plans for 2017-2020 and the allocation of funds for the development of NOCs and sports development programmes worldwide.

Attended by the heads of the five Continental Associations, the Commission, for the first time, looked at the different ways the Continental Associations use Olympic Solidarity programmes and analysed how Olympic Solidarity can help all NOCs – big and small. In its plans for 2017-2020, the Commission is aiming to maintain the current world and continental programme but also deliver tailor-made programmes for each of the 205 NOCs taking into consideration their unique cultural, social and geographical circumstances.

Ahead of the meeting, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah met with the President of the Maldives, President Abdulla Yameen, and discussed Olympic Solidarity’s collaboration with the Maldives NOC and the success of the Maldives in increasing youth participation. Olympic Solidarity funding has contributed towards the construction of the Maldives NOC headquarters which will be launched next October and has provided 43 scholarships for Maldivian athletes to study and train in Australia, Europe and the United States.
