ANOC praises unifying power of Olympic Games Paris 2024

ANOC today commended the Olympic Games Paris 2024 for its unifying power in bringing together athletes from the countries of 206 National Olympic Committees, fostering peaceful competition and celebrating shared values.

A total of 89 NOCs won medals at Paris 2024, with some achieving historic victories for their countries, including Saint Lucia, Dominica, Cabo Verde and Albania who claimed their first-ever Olympic medals. The Refugee Olympic Team also won its first Olympic medal.

Away from the field of play, ANOC supported NOCs in extending their reach at the Games by delivering the first ever ANOC NOC Video Studio Project Paris 2024. Nearly 40 NOCs took part in the project which generated more than 450 videos across 150 athlete interviews allowing NOCs to improve their social media presence with engaging athlete-led digital content.

ANOC President Robin Mitchell said:

“The Olympic Games Paris 2024 captured the heart of the world. More than half of the global population shared in the Games, captivated by the incredible athlete performances and the enduring spirit of Olympism. For 17 days, we saw athletes and fans from more than 200 nations come together in harmony to celebrate the magic of sport. At a time of division and discord, the Games, led by our athletes, sent a message of peace and hope.

“The athletes inspired us, not just with their athleticism but with how they embodied the Olympic values. For athletes from nearly 90 NOCs, they return home from Paris with Olympic medals and memories they will cherish forever. But for athletes from all NOCs, they return home to Paris having brought joy to us all and contributed to the great success of the Games. We express our gratitude to Paris 2024, the IOC and the City of Paris for delivering a Games Wide Open that we will never forget.”

Many of these incredible athlete achievements were captured as part of the NOC Photo Progamme Paris 2024, ANOC delivered in partnership with the IOC and powered by Getty Images, the IOC Official Photo Agency. The programme provided 51 qualified NOCs (NOCs with fewer than 10 athletes and no EP accreditation) with access to the Getty Images Olympic database and professional images of the 290 athletes competing for these NOCs.

ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg added:

“Paris 2024 has truly been an Olympic Games of a new era. It has integrated sport into the city on a level we have never seen before and provided athletes with iconic and beautiful backdrops for elite competition. Of course with a new era comes opportunities but also new challenges and we praise the NOCs for how they have adapted to deliver the best support to their athletes.

“We are proud to have supported the NOCs and their athletes take full advantage of these Games through our NOC Photo Programme Paris 2024, in partnership with the IOC, and our NOC Video Studio Project. We remain fully committed to developing projects and initiatives designed to offer the very best support to our NOCs.”

Through a close collaboration with Meta ANOC managed to get 35 NOC Instagram and Facebook accounts verified with the blue tick, just before and during the Games.

ANOC now looks ahead to the ANOC General Assembly in Cascais  on 29 October – 1 November 2024, with the ANOC Awards 2025 on 30 October set to honour the best athletes and NOCs from Paris 2024.
