ANOC Executive Council awards Hong Kong, China 2026 ANOC General Assembly

The ANOC Executive Council today approved Hong Kong, China as the host of the 2026 ANOC General Assembly.

The decision was taken by the Executive Council at its meeting in Cascais on the eve of the XXVII ANOC General Assembly. A comprehensive presentation was delivered by Kevin Yeung, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of Hong Kong, Kenneth Fok,  Hong Kong Olympic Committee Vice President, Edgar Yang, Hong Kong Olympic Committee Honorary Secretary General and Candy Nip, Principal Assistant Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau. The delegation emphasised their commitment to host the very best event for the ANOC family. The decision will be presented to the General Assembly tomorrow.

Prior to the presentation, the meeting was opened by ANOC President Robin Mitchell, IOC President Thomas Bach and Portuguese Olympic Committee President Artur Lopes. ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg delivered a report on ANOC’s activities and the Executive Council received reports from each of the Continental Associations.

The ANOC Commissions delivered summaries of their reports ahead of presenting the full reports to the General Assembly on Thursday. Among the Commission reports was the report of the Event Commission which provided an update on the ANOC World Beach Games and also the frequency of hosting the General Assembly with consideration of holding the event biannually.

ANOC President Robin Mitchell said:

“Today’s meeting was highly productive and showcased the diverse experience and expertise of our Executive Council members. There were a number of important debates and discussions that will inform our presentation to the General Assembly.

“We received a very strong proposal from our colleagues in Hong Kong and look forward to a very successful event in 2026. The General Assembly is unique in bringing the Olympic Movement together and we have no doubt Hong Kong will be an excellent host.”

The ANOC General Assembly begins tomorrow and will be followed by the ANOC Awards 2024 in the evening.
