
ANOC congratulates Kirsty Coventry on IOC Presidential election
ANOC congratulates Kirsty Coventry who today was elected as the 10th President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and looks forward to working with her for the benefit of the world’s NOCs.
President elect Coventry, an Olympic Champion, the first female President and first from Africa in IOC history, was elected following one round of voting at the 144th IOC Session in Costa Navarino, Greece.
ANOC President Robin Mitchell said:
“We offer our sincere congratulations to Kirsty Coventry on her historic election. We have no doubt that she will lead the IOC with distinction and help to guide the Olympic Movement to a bright future. As the umbrella body for the world’s NOCs, ANOC looks forward to working closely with the President to ensure the interests of the NOCs are promoted in the Olympic Movement.
“We would also like to commend the six candidates that were not successful. We are sure they will continue to make an invaluable contribution to the Olympic Movement.”
ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg added:

Kirsty Coventry’s election as IOC President – the first female and the first from Africa – sends a powerful message and reflects the Olympic Movement’s commitment to excellence, equality and diversity. Kirsty Coventry will succeed the ninth IOC President, Thomas Bach, whose 12-year tenure will officially end after Monday 23 June 2025.
