France take clean sweep in men’s BMX racing

It was gold, silver and bronze for the French in the men’s BMX racing, as the host nation dominated the medal podium in front of a frenzied crowd.

Joris Daudet took gold with a time of 31.422. Sylvain Andre won silver with 31.706 and Romain Mahieu earned bronze with a time of 32.022.

French President Emmanuel Macron was among those in the audience cheering on the French clean sweep.

“We dreamed of that. It’s even better. It’s amazing,” gold medallist Daudet said. “The people, the crowd was amazing and it’s hard to realise what we did. We’re all going to celebrate it. It’s amazing. It’s a dream come true. It’s hard to realise now, but I’m sure tonight is going to be pretty special.”

Speaking about the clean sweep, silver medallist Andre said: “to achieve first, second and third, we knew that it was possible, that there was a slim chance, and we all wanted to win the race. I’m glad that we did, and not the others.”
