The 1st Greek Olympic Athletes Forum was held with great success

Organized by the Athletes’ Commission of the Hellenic Olympic Committee at the HOC Amphitheater, the first Greek Olympic Athletes’ Forum was a great success and took place in the presence of numerous Olympians and top athletes.

The aim of the initiative of the President of the Athletes’ Commission, Voula Kozompoli, was to discuss all the problems and issues that athletes face on a daily basis and to provide the Ministry of Sport with specific comments on the formulation of the new sports law, as the Deputy Minister of Sport, Yannis Vroutsis, emphasized in his welcoming speech.

The President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee Spyros Capralos said: “The most important thing today is to hear the opinions of the athletes because, as the Minister pointed out, a process has begun in which we all have to put forward our proposals for the new sports law. All of you here represent the beautiful side of sport, the ideals of Olympism, you are the ones who bring us joy and pride with your participation in the Olympic Games and the distinctions you bring to our country. The law just has to enable you to continue in this direction. We must support, motivate and reward you, both during your efforts and, of course, after your successes. I hope that useful conclusions will be drawn from today’s meeting so that the athletes’ proposals for the new sports law are heard.”

The President of the Athletes’ Committee, Voula Kozompoli, said among other things: “The first Athletes’ Forum is a fact, and I am sure that we will discuss more in the future with different topics so that the athletes’ voice becomes increasingly stronger with the aim of a better way of life with sport for all and more distinctions for our athletes and our country. The occasion for the theme of the conference came after our official visit as the Association of Olympians, of which I have the honor to be the President, to the Minister of Sport, Mr. Vroutsis, and his will to immediately start the necessary reforms in sport, including the new sports law. After this visit, as President of the Athletes’ Commission of the HOC, I suggested to the other members to make proposals for the new sports law the main topic of our conference. My proposal was unanimously accepted, and here we all are today!”

The Secretary General for Sport Giorgos Mavrotas also addressed the participants a message.

This was followed by a discussion in four panels, with different guests and topics.

Panel 1 Topic: Functioning of associations, sports clubs, military sports, state subsidies

Panel 2 Topic: Rights and obligations of athletes – transfers, insurance, School-University sports

Panel 3 Topic: Motivations, benefits, elite sport – studies
