Successful Third ANOC Sports/Technical Directors Seminar draws to a close

The third ANOC Sports/Technical Directors Seminar concluded this evening in Rabat, Morocco after two-days of constructive discussions which saw representatives from 43 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) share important experiences and insights.

Following yesterday’s sessions which focused primarily on the main challenges in the remaining preparatory months for Paris 2024, today’s sessions addressed NOCs’ concerns for the future, and how it is important for the NOCs to work together in partnership with ANOC to raise and represent the voice of the NOCs in different forums.

The host NOC of Morocco and NOC of Greece opened the second day on the theme ‘NOCs looking into the future’, before NOC breakout group discussions were held on: Tackling rising OG costs, Games preparation partnerships, NOC cooperation, Evolving Olympic programme, and the NOC role in safeguarding.

In a special NOC Showcase session, the NOCs of Denmark and Australia presented their strategy on data management for Games preparation, presenting their system functionalities and benefits. An open plenary session followed with the NOCs of Portugal, Austria and Canada presenting on future challenges for NOCs.

The two-day Seminar in total saw 11 NOCs make presentations and allowed for plenty of opportunity for NOCs to exchange experiences. Delegates were able to discuss in depth several different topics in smaller breakout groups, intensifying the knowledge exchange and interaction.

Among the different concerns raised by the NOCs, the topic of staff wellbeing was pointed out as a constant risk for the NOC Games operations teams. The NOC of Belgium on the first day had presented its strategy and ongoing project to create best practices to protect the welfare of NOC staff who are put under significant stress during Game operations. ANOC will continue the conversations with Belgium so that the knowledge developed can be shared with other NOCs.

ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg concluded the seminar by thanking the NOC of Morocco for their excellent hosting of the NOC Family, and thanked the participant NOCs for their engagement and openness in sharing their strategies and opinions, in a true spirit of friendship and collaboration. She reiterated ANOCs’ commitment to constantly representing the voice of the NOCs in different international forums in the Olympic Movement and the importance of keeping close and constant contact with the member NOCs.
