Jordan NOC President Prince Faisal launches Jordan Olympic Academy

HRH Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee, launched the Jordan Olympic Academy on Wednesday, 22 February.

The ceremony was held in the capital Amman in the presence of a number of members of the Royal family. It was also attended by the Minister of Youth, HE Mohammed Salama Faris Al-Nabulsi, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Dr Nawaf Al-Ajarma, the Vice-Presidents of JOC, Dr Sari Hamdan and Khaled Atiyat and a number of ambassadors of countries in the Kingdom and representatives of national sports federations.

In 2022, the Jordan Olympic Committee established the Jordan Olympic Academy, a non-profit organisation, which acts as the educational arm of the JOC offering accredited programmes and projects in sports management, training and Olympic education.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Sari Hamdan pointed out the importance of launching the Olympic Academy to serve the sports system, promote basic principles and values of the Olympic Movement and develop related programmes.

Dr Hamdan said Prince Faisal was keen to launch the Academy as an essential element and specialised tool to build the capacity of sports officials thus providing value-added job opportunities that serve the sports sector, the economy and society in an integrated manner.

The launch ceremony was followed by a panel discussion on ‘The Role of the Jordan Olympic Academy in the Sports and Society Sector’ in the presence of national karate athlete, Abdulrahaman Al-Masatfa, bronze medallist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
