Peruvian Olympic Committee honours best athletes and coaches of 2022

The Peruvian Olympic Committee (COP) honoured the best athletes and coaches of 2022 during a special ceremony chaired by COP President Dr. Renzo Manyari Velazco.

During the Olympic Gala, the best Preruvian Olympic athletes of all time were also recognised.

The two-time world champion in athletic walking, Kimberly García, was unanimously chosen as the best athlete of the year after winning gold medals at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States of America in the 20 and 35 km women’s athletic walking. The biggest award and recognition of the night was made by the president of the COP, Renzo Manyari.

During the emotional ceremony, the president of the COP, pointed out “the Olympic Movement has endured throughout history two world wars, the COVID 19 pandemic, but we have had something very important, resilience, the resilience of the Olympic flame of fire that is forged in that cauldron of hope that rises towards eternity in the sky, is where you, dear OLY, rise like stars together with the constellation that will illuminate the dream of future generations of Peruvian Olympism”.

This event was attended by the Minister of Education, Oscar Manuel Becerra, the mayor of Miraflores Carlos Canales, the mayor of Surco Carlos Bruce, the president of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Renzo Manyari, the president of the Peruvian Sports Institute, Juan Carlos Huerta , the president of the National Paralympic Association of Peru, Lucha Villar, Oscar Fuentes ambassador of Chile in Peru, Marc Giacomini ambassador of France in our country, among others.

The winners of the night were: The most outstanding individual sports coach was Simones Gissi (shotgun) from the Sports Shooting Federation; the most outstanding individual sports coach was Christina Aicardi from the Peruvian Badminton Federation; the most prominent team sport coach was Francisco Manuel Hervas Tirado from the Volleyball Federation.

The outstanding athlete in the individual male youth category was Gonzalo Sebastián Bueno Rodríguez from the Tennis Federation; the outstanding athlete in the individual female youth category was Luciana Alessandra Julca Preciado from the Judo Federation and the best male team in the absolute category in collective sport, the recognition went to the Men’s Volleyball Team.

The best women’s team in the absolute category in collective sport was for the Women’s Volleyball team; the outstanding athlete in the absolute male category went to Jean Paul de Trazegnies from the Sailing Federation; the outstanding athlete in the absolute female category was Kimberly García León; The outstanding Federation of the year was the Peruvian Athletics Sports Federation and the athlete of the year again, Kimberly García León.
