German Olympic Sports Confederation to hold vote on Olympic and Paralympic Games bid application

The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) is set to hold a vote at its General Assembly in Baden-Baden on 3 December 2022 to decide on whether it should bid to host future editions of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

DOSB President Thomas Weikert had previously identified the Olympic Winter Games in 2034 and Olympic Games in 2036 as the earliest targets for a potential bid.

“Making the unique power of sport and in particular the Olympic Movement tangible again in Germany and acting sustainably from an ecological, social and economic point of view, as well as creating concrete added value for society, is a central task for the DOSB. At our General Assembly in Baden-Baden on 3 December 2022, we will ask for a vote to embark on a two-year process on why, how and with whom we want to apply to the IOC for the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said the organisation in a statement.

Germany successfully staged the multi-sport European Championships Munich 2022 and co-hosted EuroBasket this year, with all the tournament’s knockout matches being played in Berlin.
