Albanian National Olympic Committee General Assembly sees four new members elected to Executive Committee

The 27th General Assembly of the Albanian National Olympic Committee (KOKSH) saw four new members elected to its Executive Committee, as well as the election of the three founding members that will make up the NOC’s Sports Arbitration Council and honoured two athletes for their outstanding contribution to sport in Albania.

The assembly was opened by KOKSH President Fidel Ylli, who gave a presentation on the impressive work that has been completed by the organisation since its last meeting and provided a list of objectives for 2023.

The key feature of the assembly was the election of four members onto the Executive Committee. Alfred Tahiraj, Dritan Shakohoxha, Julinda Dhame and Tonin Binoshaj were confirmed as members upon the completion of the voting procedure, with a mandate until 2025. Newly elected candidates will be responsible for ensuring that good governance practices are implemented, as well as developing a close relationship with the Athletes’ Commission.

Delegates present at the assembly also elected Skënder Kaçupi, Eralda Cani and Marjana Semini as the founding members of the newly formed Sports Arbitration Council. Kaçupi, who was proposed by the Athletes’ Commission, received 47 votes out of the 58 available while Cani, who was proposed by the country’s National Federations received 50 votes. Semini was proposed as a candidate by the public and received 46 votes to confirm her position in the Sports Arbitration Council.

KOKSH Secretary General Gerti Shima, and European Championships Munich 2022 gold medallist, Luiza Gega, had the honour of awarding the “Olympic Order” to two key figures in Albanian sport, Gazmend Çaçi and Gjergj Ruli. They received the award for inspiring Albania’s youth to participate in sport through their achievements on the international stage in basketball and athletics, respectively.
