ANOC to host Special Theme Sessions during ANOC General Assembly
ANOC will host two special theme sessions on sustainability and integrity in sport on the occasion of the XXVI ANOC General Assembly Seoul 2022.
The two sessions will take place on 21 October at the XXVI ANOC General Assembly in Seoul as part of ANOC’s ongoing commitment to facilitating knowledge-transfer and the exchange of best practice among NOCs, in line with the ANOC Strategic Plan. It will be the first time panel sessions of this kind have been held at an ANOC General Assembly.
The themes for the two sessions have been selected following dialogue with NOCs on subjects that would be of interest and greatest value. The first session, entitled ‘Sustainability in Sport’, will be moderated by Damian Foxall, an experienced sailor and project manager at The Toolbox – a company which provides a suite of guides, tools and templates for organisations to establish their own sustainability programmes. Foxall will deliver a keynote address before facilitating a discussion with guest speakers Leonardo Cunha (NOC Cape Verde) and Tricia Smith (NOC Canada), who will share their thoughts and insights.
The second session is entitled ‘How to protect integrity in sports’ and will see ANOC Legal Commission chair Mike Chambers deliver the keynote speech. Guest speakers Anneke van Zanen-Nieberg (NOC Netherlands), João Paulo Almeida (NOC Portugal) and Matt Caroll (NOC Australia) will exchange their experiences and perspectives.
ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg said:
“We are excited to host special theme sessions for NOCs during the ANOC General Assembly. We are always looking at how we can bring greater value to the NOCs and how we can create opportunities for them to learn from one another. We encourage all NOCs to attend to listen to the discussions and contribute in an open and relaxed setting. These interactive theme sessions will cover two very important subjects for NOCs – sustainability and integrity – and we hope with our expert guest panellists they will prove to be very engaging and informative.”
ANOC is committed to sustainability and as a signatory for the UN Sports for Climate Action framework encourages NOCs to join the movement and implement sustainable strategies and initiatives within their organisations.
The General Assembly will take place on 19-21 October in Seoul. Among the important items on the General Assembly agenda will be the election of the President and Senior Vice President. On the evening of 19 October, the ANOC Awards will return and celebrate the best athletes and NOCs from the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.
