Fiji claim first ever Olympic gold medal

Fiji celebrated an historic first ever Olympic gold medal on Thursday night winning the men’s rugby sevens final against Great Britain.

Rugby sevens was introduced for the first time at Rio 2016 and Fiji were quick to take full advantage of the sport’s inclusion in the Olympic Games. Rugby sevens is the naitonal sport in country of just over 800,000 people and as World Champions, Fiji went into the final as favourites. Despite Great Britain’s best efforts, Fiji were too strong and came away as the victors, winning 43-7.
